Duffy's HopeAllen “Duffy” Samuels has been serving the youth in the inner city of Wilmington for quite some time. Founded in 1998 as Duffy’s Foundation, Duffy began servicing the children of the city with mentoring programs, academic enrichment, community service activities, and extracurricular programs. Duffy’s Hope’s mission is “to advance community hope by fostering the academic achievement and social enrichment of at risk youth, through advocacy, mentoring and communication to give youth encouraging words.”

Duffy Samuels isn’t all talk; these words are more than just a statement. He puts them into action by implementing programs such as Duffy’s Hope Youth Summer Basketball League in conjunction with the city of Wilmington. This summer league is for youth ages 14-17, with split leagues for boys and girls. The draft for the boys league will be held Saturday June 13, 2009 at the PAL Center on Market Street in Wilmington, DE. To register for the girls league parents/guardians must contact Duffy’s Hope office at (302) 652-3532 no later than June 16th, 2009.

The fun doesn’t stop there, the Duffy’s Hope 7th annual Celebrity Softball Game, is also around the corner. The event is August 8th at Blue Rocks Stadium, doors open at 5pm. Tickets go on sale starting June 26th, 2009 they are $15 in advance, more at the door. Last year celebrities such as Clifton Powell, Hill Harper, and Megan Good were in attendance. Along with the soft ball game, there will be other activities to participate in such as face painting, dance competitions, and a 3-legged race. The proceeds from the Celebrity Softball Game benefit the Hope Mentoring Program.

Duffy’s Hope has their work cut out for them this summer, but the organization and its founder would not have it any other way. Duffy Samuels is proud to continue to serve the youth of Wilmington and beyond with his calling of community outreach.
