Mr. Maurice M. Gray
Jr. (www.mauricemgrayjr.com)
has been writing since 2000 and has successfully self-published two novels,
To Whom Much Is Given and the sequel All Things Work Together. Mr. Gray
has also contributed to two anthologies Blessed Assurance 2003 and The Soul
of a Man 2009. Wanting to get a better understanding of where Mr. Gray’s
inspiration is derived from I was honored to have the opportunity to speak
with him about his work.
Q: What makes you want to write inspirational
work?
A: It’s who I am, a part of my character.
Q: What do you hope readers will gain from
reading your work?
A: I would like for readers to see that being
a Christian doesn’t mean that you live a dull boring life. People
sometimes have a skewed view of what real Christianity means. I want them
to be able to see themselves in my work.
Q: Who is your favorite character?
A: I put pieces of me in all my characters.
The character I mostly identify with is my lead character Max Carson. I
gave Max a lot of my own interest and career path that I thought I was going
to take- that being journalism.
Q: Where is your favorite place to write?
A: My office at home. I close my door and refuse
to turn my television on.
Q: What books do you read?
A: Christian Fiction, Science Fiction and Pure
Romance
Q: Why is it important for writers to read?
A: The more you read, the more you know how
a great book is made. It also helps you to be sure you aren’t duplicating
work that is already out there.
Q: What, if any, other services do you offer?
A: I also help aspiring authors with their
work- editing, proof-reading, self-publication
Q: Where can your books be found?
A: Amandla’s and Mejah bookstores
Q: What’s next for you?
A: 2010 I am writing a novel entitled Female
Problems. This story follows three men and the women in their lives who
cause them so many problems. I also have a book signing Dec. 18th and Dec.
19th. I am also looking to begin teaching writing workshop in March/April
2010.
