Today, President Joe Biden announced his intent to appoint qualified and diverse leaders to the Presidentâs Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The Presidentâs Board will advance the goal of theâ¯, established by the Carter Administration, to increase the capacity of HBCUs to provide the highest-quality education to its students and continue serving as engines of opportunity.Â
In 2021, President Biden appointed Dr. Tony Allen, President of Delaware State University, as the Chair, and Dr. Glenda B. Glover, President of Tennessee State University, as the Vice Chair to serve on the Presidentâs Board of Advisors on HBCUs, respectively. In February, he appointed Dr. Dietra Trent as executive director of the White House HBCU Initiative.Â
President Biden announced his intent to appoint the following persons to work with Dr. Allen and Dr. Glover on the Board of Advisors on HBCUs:Â
- Dr. Makola M. Abdullah â President of Virginia State UniversityÂ
- Dr, Javaune Adams-Gaston â President of Norfolk State UniversityÂ
- Paige Blake â Bowie State University junior student and White House Initiative HBCU Competitiveness Scholar Â
- Thasunda Brown Duckett â President and CEO of TIAA, a Fortune 100 provider of secure retirements and outcome-focused investments.Â
- Willie A. Deese â Retired pharmaceutical executive and corporate board member. Most recently served as Executive Vice President of Merek and Co., Inc.Â
- Patrick Cokley â Chief of Organization Advocacy and Learning at Civic Influencers, a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to increase youth civic power and youth voting.Â
- Dr. Monica Goldson â CEO for Prince Georgeâs County Public SchoolsÂ
- Brett J. Hart â President of United AirlinesÂ
- Taraji P. Henson â Academy Award-nominated and SAG and Golden Globe-winning actressÂ
- Beverly W. Hogan â Retired President Emerita of Tougaloo CollegeÂ
- Lisa P. Jackson â Apple Vice President of Environmental, Policy and Social Initiatives.Â
- Shevrin D. Jones â Florida State Sen. Shevrin Jones.Â
- Walter M. Kimbrough â President of Dillard University.Â
- William F.L. Moses â Managing Director for the Kresge Foundationâs Education ProgramÂ
