Dom & Nicole Draper are an International award-winning African American Voiceover Power Couple with clients that include Google, Nike, Netflix, Amazon, eBay, Indeed, the NFL, NHL, and the NBA to name a few. They are a minority-owned, woman-owned business, that provides both a male and female voice that is rich with life, warmth, and versatility. The VO Couple aims to collaborate closely with each client to deliver their vision and message with clarity, tonality, and emotion. Outside of their ambitions as a business, The Voiceover Couple also volunteers their time to expose underserved youth to a career in the voiceover industry with the goal of one day starting a non-profit geared toward increasing equity and equality in the VO Industry.
Why did you both decide to become business owners?
The Pandemic forced me (Dom) to use the extra time I had to grow this from a side hustle to a real career. After working as a journalist for 10 years on the side and doing Telecomm Full time, my Dad sold his telecom business after the pandemic, and my Wife, who was a teacher at the time, encouraged me to build the business and be a stay-at-home Dad. The rest is history.
What service does the Voice Over Couple provide?
We provide recorded Voiceovers for everything from small to big businesses and brands. We also do Corporate Narration, eLearning, etc. We also can video sync and edit. We have a sound-treated studio which we converted from a walk-in closet. We also do Corporate Narration, eLearning, etc.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others in your industry?
As Voice Artists, what sets us apart is having a voice-over married team. We offer both warm-toned Male and Female voices which is unique to the industry. My 4 year old is also training to be in VO so we might be the Voiceover Family soon!
What are your biggest wins thus far?
Our biggest wins have been working for Amazon, and Google, Doing workshops for the Boys and Girls Club kids, Winning Delaware 40under40 together, and Business Woman of the Year for Nicole.
Is there anyone you would like to thank who has helped you on your journey?
So many! My Mom, Pam Draper, for suggesting I look into VO work. Gina Scarpa, our first mentor. Our friends and family for supporting our dreams and of course our Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ!
When you are not working on the business … what do you do for fun or relaxation?
Spending time with family, concerts, traveling, watching and playing sports, working out, serving at church, and exposing underserved youth to VO work.
What’s your favorite part about doing business in Delaware?
Setting our schedules and spending more time with my kids. I (Dom) love doing sports VOs for professional organizations.
Who are the people you want to help?
The underserved youth who have no clue they can make money doing this at a very young age. I want to help people find a career that can help change their family’s lives.
As it relates to Black Business, what does Delaware need more of?
Support and Unity, we need to invest in each other and network more
Is there anything we should be looking forward to coming from you or that you want our readers to know?
We just signed off on our biggest job yet, but we are under NDA but would love to hint around to it (haha). Also, we plan to expand our efforts to teach kids about VO work as the new Eastside Charter STEM center comes to completion.
