A Delaware State University (DSU) student, El Hadji Mbaye, a sophomore Aviation major and Vice President of the Campus Activities Board, spearheaded an initiative that brought custom DSU Hornet Crocs to life. Inspired by school-branded apparel seen at a student affairs conference, Mbaye proposed the idea to Crocs Inc., leading to over 100 emails with sales manager Chase Brasher. The collaboration resulted in a limited-edition DSU Hornet Crocs design, making DSU the first HBCU with a Custom Crocs Team Store.
The soft launch sold over 300 pairs to students, faculty, alumni, and sports teams, with 10% of sales directed to a DSU scholarship fund. Due to high interest, another edition may release in Spring 2025. Mbaye credits the project with enhancing his leadership skills, while DSU leadership praised his dedication to blending university pride with community impact.
