Dres hit the stage at “Carpe Diem,” a Free Alumni Tailgate powered by MeeShach Stennett (@radioshach), Jamal-Hassan Perkins (@swatdog30), and Trippi Congo (@trippi.congo), electrifying the crowd with his timeless flow, charisma, and hits that defined an era. The event, which brought together alumni, students, and community members, turned into a full-on celebration of music, culture, and HBCU pride, embodying the Homecoming spirit of seizing the day and celebrating legacy.

Black Sheep, formed in 1989, became a defining force in hip hop’s golden era as part of the Native Tongues collective, alongside icons like A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul. Their debut album A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing (1991) remains one of hip hop’s most influential works, featuring the enduring anthem “The Choice Is Yours.” Dres (born Andrés “Dres” Vargas-Titus) stood out for his clever lyricism and smooth delivery, earning a place among the most respected voices in hip hop.

Beyond group success, Dres forged a strong solo career with projects like Sure Shot Redemption (1999), and in recent years has continued creating music and collaborating with new artists, all while becoming part of Delaware’s growing creative and cultural scene.

His Homecoming weekend performance at DSU was more than a show, it was a full-circle moment for a hip hop legend sharing space with a new generation of HBCU students and alumni. The “Carpe Diem” tailgate, powered by community heavy-hitters @radioshach, @swatdog30, and @trippi.congo, brought unmatched energy to the DSU campus, fusing old-school vibes with present-day pride.

Homecoming at DSU ran from October 5–12, 2025, and included a lineup of events, alumni gatherings, and the Hornets’ football game at Alumni Stadium. With performances like Dres’s lighting up the weekend, DSU once again proved why its Homecoming is one of the most anticipated celebrations in Delaware.
