Cool J’s Premium Water Ice is the brilliant idea of 17yr old, former Charter School of Wilmington student John Hargrove. In the spring of his senior year, John decided to attend Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA to study business. He was excited about the experiences he would have over the next four years at college, but he was also concerned about what the future might hold for him beyond graduation.
He was well aware that a job was not guaranteed after college, so he shared his concern with his father, former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver, Marvin Hargrove who asked John what he wanted to do. John thought about it for days, then it hit him. Start his own business now, and Cool J’s was born.
John insisted that Cool J’s not just have the best water ice and soft-serve ice cream, but be the best place to enjoy it as well. Therefore, he added premium to the name and decided to provide seating, music, and occasional entertainment so his customers could, as he says, have the best place to chill.
