Dakeim Tolson owns and operates Kreators Mill Tattoo and Art Lounge in Camden, Delaware. Born and raised in Keny County, Delaware, Dakeim is 32 years old and has been drawing since he was between 6-8 years old. Art and painting are something that has always grabbed his attention and now he has been tattooing and painting for 14 years. Studying art at Delaware State University, Delaware College of Art and Design, and Otis College of Art and Design has fueled his artistic passions leading him to do work such as murals, graphic design, and tattooing for many individuals and businesses in the Kent County area and beyond.

Tell us about your business.

Our business is a ‘Kreative’ space focused on creativity and tattoos. We seek to create a network of creatives that will allow younger artists to become excited about pursuing creative careers. Our studio features an open layout adorned with local artwork, murals, and enthusiasts alike to explore their creativity. In one corner, skilled tattoo artists bring clients’ visions to life with intricate designs while in another space we have workshops and events that foster collaboration among painters, sculptors, and illustrators. With a welcoming atmosphere that encourages self-expression. Kreators Mill serves as both a tattoo parlor and a community hub celebrating the power of art in all its forms.

Why did you decide to become a business owner?

From an early age, I felt the drive to transcend the ordinary and carve out a unique path for myself. My passion for creation has always been a guiding force in my life, whether through art, design, or innovative projects. This innate creativity led me to study business in high school, where I discovered the power of entrepreneurship and the potential to turn ideas into reality.

What is your talent?

My Talent is art and design. We have a range of products and services, quality affordable tattoos, graphic design, murals, creative space renovations, artwork, and merchandise.

When you are not working … what do you do for fun or relaxation?

When I am not working, I relax with my kids and wife.

Is there anything we should be looking forward to coming from you or that you want our readers to know?

Shortly, Kreators Mill will be hosting socials and workshops that will inspire young and older artists to develop their crafts and have it spotlighted.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others in your industry?

We are unique in the tattoo industry because at Kreators Mill creativity is at the forefront of everything we do. We believe in championing creators of all mediums and we strive to foster a culture that inspires collaboration and artistic expression.

Our mission is to be a source of creative direction, empowering young artist to pursue their passions with relentless energy and enthusiasm. whether through tattooing, visual arts, or other creative endeavors, we are dedicated to nurturing talent and providing a platform for innovative ideas to flourish.

What inspires you to do the work you do?

Creating has always been a profound source of fulfillment for me; there’s an indescribable joy in taking an idea from its inception and executing it to the best of my ability. This process not only brings a deep sense of accomplishment but also fosters a unique confidence that spills over into other aspects of my life. I believe that this passion for creation is something that should be shared with my community. By inspiring others to embrace their creative journeys, I hope to cultivate an environment where everyone feels empowered to explore their ideas and express themselves freely. Together, we can celebrate our collective creativity and uplift one another in the pursuit of our passions.

What’s your favorite part about doing business in Delaware?

Knowing that there are many bridges to the gap, that people are doing the work, and that there are many programs and resources available to those willing to do the work keeps my faith stronger.

Who are the people you want to help?

Younger kids that need help seeing a brighter horizon when their creative passions are celebrated.

What keeps you motivated to keep following your dreams?

The community offering encouraging words and the many that have supported my business in every way from word of mouth, buying paintings, and just showing up and supporting.

What are your biggest wins thus far?

My biggest win to date is being able to open my creative studio.

What impact is your business making on the community?

The business has only been open for a year, however, in the next two years will hope to be deeply involved with local businesses and organizations that will allow us to offer platforms for young and older creators to be seen and heard.

As it relates to black business, what does Delaware need more of?

Unity, tradition, and making celebrations of black business openings feel like a holiday. Making good news, such as black business openings, just as cool as the new Jordan releases.
