What is a group of creative entrepreneurs to do when their businesses have come to a near halt during the COVID pandemic? Use their talents to promote minority-owned businesses during Black History Month!

Photographer Andre Wright Jr. first approached stylist Sara A. Crawford with the idea of creating an editorial spread featuring creatives of color. Together, they went to work putting together their dream team.  Crawford created mood boards, secured hair, make-up, and wardrobe, while Wright Jr. locked down locations and worked on the overall look and feel of the styled shoot.

“Making the work of black creators known was the goal of this project. A successful team has a common vision and are passionately engaged in reaching that vision,” said Wright Jr. “I wanted to make sure the team we put together were just as passionate about this project as I was, and I think we achieved that.”

The team includes:

  • Andre Wright Jr. – Photographer –
  • Sara A. Crawford – Fashion Stylist –
  • Vanetta Springer – Make-up Artist –
  • Nadjah Nicole – Model –
  • Andrew Major – BTS/Assistant Shooter –
  • Ryan Stewart – Sound & Gaffer

For Crawford, this project was an opportunity to not only expand her own network of black creatives but connect them with other entrepreneurs of color. This invaluable networking and resource sharing was not something that was offered to her when trying to break into the creative sector, and she has made it her mission to make sure that doesn’t happen to those in her circle and beyond.

“Despite the current state of the world, art hasn’t stopped,” added Crawford. “Creating this positive imagery was invigorating, and I hope we are able to shine a light on the support that these, and so many other black-owned creative businesses need right now.”
