Today, Citizens for a Pro-Business Delaware, a 5,000-member grassroots advocacy organization founded in 2016, announced that it has rebranded as Citizens for Judicial Fairness to reflect the groupâs evolution to a reform-focused organization advocating for equity and transparency in state courthouses and law firms nationwide, as well as its commitment to remain involved in Delaware for the long-term. CJF has pledged to continue forging partnerships and providing grants to aligned local grassroots organizations to develop its network of advocates.
Said Citizens for Judicial Fairness (formerly CPBD) Campaign Manager Chris Coffey, âThis is a major milestone for our movement in Delaware and nationwide as we focus our efforts on fighting for fairness, equity, and transparency in our judiciary and legal industry. Since our founding nearly six years ago, weâve been constantly amazed by the enthusiastic grassroots response from thousands of citizens in Delaware and beyond who are sick and tired of courts that donât look like them or live like them making far-reaching decisions that affect their livelihoods. We are proud to have given those citizens a voice and an outlet to demand better from their leaders, and are excited to continue that work for the long-haul.â
To go along with the name change and rebrand, CJF will host a rally on May 24th at 11:30 AM outside the Delaware State Capitol in Dover with Reverend Al Sharpton, Pastor Blaine Hackett, activist Keandra Rey, and dozens of supporters to demand that Governor Carney replace outgoing Chancery Court Vice Chancellor Slights with a Black justice. Citizens has been leading the charge for more diverse and equitable courts in Delaware for years and will continue to do so under the banner of CJF.
Continued Chris Coffey, âAs we enter this new phase of our advocacy, we are committed to doubling down on our role as the leading voice for judicial diversity and equity in Delaware. Weâve said for years that weâre here to stay in Delaware and we meant it â our new brand and name represent that commitment and we couldnât be more excited to keep working alongside our partners and supporters to create lasting positive change in Delaware.â
