Marcus Henry, Long-time State and County Leader, Announces Candidacy for New Castle County Executive

Marcus Henry, a community leader with years of experience in both state and county government operations, is announcing his candidacy for New Castle County Executive on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, during a daylong series of events across the county. Henry will connect with residents starting at 10:00 a.m. at the MOT Jean Birch Senior Center in Middletown, followed by the George Wilson Center in Newark at 1:00 p.m., and culminating at the base of the Margaret Rose Henry Bridge on the Wilmington Riverwalk, named after his esteemed mother, at 3:30 p.m. A celebratory party will wrap up the day’s activities at the Wilmington location.

Henry comes with more than 20 years of experience in public service at the state and county levels, and is known for his collaborative, common sense leadership that affects change, inspires action, and gets things done. He worked tirelessly in multiple departments under the last three County Executives–unquestionably the best “on the job” training possible. He will bring unparalleled experience, vision, and passion to the role of County Executive and will be able to hit the ground running on day one.

During his career, among other things, Henry helped reinvigorate neighborhoods with improved affordable housing, oversaw the site selection and creation of four new libraries, and helped guide the Hope Center to become a life-changing reality for unhoused people. He has dedicated his life to improving New Castle County for all its residents, and he will work tirelessly to ensure the County is a place where everyone is proud to live, work, or raise a family.

Over the next two years of his campaign, he will travel throughout the county to listen to residents about the issues that matter to them. “Now is the time to meet, talk, and really listen to New Castle County residents. We live in the largest and most diverse county in the state, and I want to hear what is on people’s minds,” said Henry. “Whether you live in Townsend, Delaware City, Glasgow, Newark, Wilmington, or anywhere in between, your concerns matter to me. It is my top priority to get to know and listen to as many residents as possible.”

All are invited to attend the kickoff events. For more information, go to or visit .
