A Black employee at the Millville Volunteer Fire Company in Delaware endured racist harassment from two white coworkers, Jay Droney and Jordan Hastings, during a shift in February 2024. The abuse included Droney allegedly chasing him with a noose-shaped rope while shouting racist slurs, as Hastings recorded the incident. The victim stayed silent for over a year out of fear of causing trouble but recently came forward. Both men were suspended and are now facing charges, including a hate crime, conspiracy, and harassment. They were released from jail on their own recognizance.
