Delaware State Rep. Madinah Wilson-Anton is using humor to break down barriers and spark real conversations about race, identity, and skin conditions. Living with vitiligo for over a decade, she shared this bold and witty reflection at a recent event:
“Someone came up to me and said, ‘You have vitiligo? My sister has it too—and in five years, you’ll be completely white.’ I was sad at first… but then I thought about it. I’ve got a degree, a job—and with white privilege on my side? I’d be on top of the world!
Vitiligo can be stress-induced, and y’all definitely be stressing me out… but apparently not enough. Step it up!”
Vitiligo is a condition where the skin loses pigment, causing white patches to appear. It happens when the body’s immune system attacks pigment-producing cells.
Her powerful mix of vulnerability and sharp wit is not only humanizing a skin condition often misunderstood—but also flipping the narrative on what privilege, perception, and personal power look like.
