University of Delaware wide receiver Max Patterson, who boasts an impressive 388K followers on TikTok, has officially gone viral for something he never saw coming: a glizzy-gripping promo post on the official UD Football Instagram page.

For context, like most college football programs, the Blue Hens maintain a polished Instagram presence, sharing game schedules, hype videos, score updates, and player spotlights. Each year, the team hosts Media Day, where players take professional photos used throughout the season. For many athletes, being featured on the team’s main page is a badge of honor.
Patterson shared (in a now-viral TikTok) how it all unfolded:
“Everybody knows college football teams have Instagram pages. On these pages, they’ll post things like the schedule, game week, score. I play for the University of Delaware, and this is the college football page. When we do our media day, we take photos so that they have stuff to use throughout the season.”
The excitement quickly shifted.
“So yesterday, I got a notification on my phone that I’ve been tagged in a post. And this is a privilege, because there’s like 100 guys on the team, and y’all chose to post me? That’s pretty dope, right?”
But the glory moment turned into viral comedy, fast.
“But then I realized I got tagged in with just one more post. And this happens to be the dollar hot dog night… So yes, this is me gripping a glizzy with one hand. Absolutely eyeing that thing, bro. Eyeing that.”
And Patterson wasn’t the only star of the now-iconic post:
“Don’t even get me started on my man Kelly over here, tiptoe Michael Jackson lean, double gripped up on that glizzy. I need y’all to tell me in the comments which one is worse, bro.”
Patterson joked that the marketing team definitely set him up:
“Whole time, he knew what he was doing. People were hitting my phone with the most diabolical memes, bro. I couldn’t run away from it.”
What stung the most wasn’t just the photo, it was the timing.
“I love my school, but this might genuinely be the worst, like, the worst way to promote this, bro. I scored my first touchdown three days ago.”
Instead of celebrating his first career college touchdown, Patterson watched his friends reposting the glizzy picture:
“Rather than show support on the first college game touchdown that I’ve ever scored, I had some of my closest friends reposting the glizzy.”
And the moment that truly finished him:
“What really does it for me is just the eye contact, bro, because I’m thinking it’s a football.”
Despite the roast, Patterson is leaning into the humor, turning a questionable promo choice into one of the funniest college football viral moments this season. If anything, it proves Patterson doesn’t just score touchdowns, he delivers top-tier content too.
