For decades, Canaan Baptist Church has been a cornerstone of compassion in the community through its Bullock Food Pantry, faithfully distributing food every month to Delaware families in need. As the nation faces the combined challenges of a federal government shutdown and escalating food insecurity, the church continues its unwavering mission to serve with faith and love.

Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Christopher A. Bullock emphasized the spiritual foundation behind the pantry’s work:

“We have been feeding our community for decades, and we will continue to do so as long as there is a need. This is not charity — this is ministry. This is what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus in a hurting world. Faith without works is dead, and love without service is incomplete.”

Dr. Nakishia W. Bailey, Director of Community Engagement, echoed that message of perseverance, noting that the pantry has never missed a month of service — not during the pandemic, supply shortages, or the current shutdown. “Our volunteers, partners, and congregation continue to show up with open hearts and helping hands. That’s the power of community, and that’s what ministry looks like in action,” she said.

The next food distribution will take place Sunday, November 16, 2025, beginning after service at 11:30 a.m. at Canaan Baptist Church. Attendees are asked not to line up before 11:30 a.m. Fresh produce, pantry staples, and essential goods will be distributed to local residents — continuing the church’s proud legacy of faith in action and community collaboration.

Community members and organizations are invited to volunteer during these sessions:

  • Friday, November 14 (9 a.m.–12 p.m.) — Receive and unload food from the Food Bank of Delaware

  • Friday, November 14 (6 p.m.–9 p.m.) — Assemble food bags for distribution

  • Sunday, November 16 (11:30 a.m.–until supplies last) — Assist with distribution following morning worship

Canaan Baptist Church expressed gratitude to its longstanding partners — Kenny Family Foundation, Food Bank of Delaware, Dot Foods Delaware Distribution Center, and A. Philip Randolph Institute (Delaware Chapter) — whose continued collaboration has helped deliver thousands of meals to households across New Castle County.
