Sophomore guard Ponce James, a native of Bridgeport, Connecticut, has announced his decision to transfer after two seasons with the program. Represented by Arete Sports, James is coming off a strong 2025–26 campaign where he earned Second Team All-MEAC honors.
He averaged 13.6 points, 3.4 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game, emerging as one of the team’s most consistent and impactful players on both ends of the floor. With his production and two-way ability, James is expected to draw significant interest in the portal.
In a separate announcement, Theodore Pendergrass III—grandson of legendary singer Teddy Pendergrass—also revealed he will be entering the transfer portal after his time at Delaware State.
Pendergrass shared a heartfelt message expressing gratitude to God, his family, friends, and the Delaware State community for their support throughout his journey. Notably, his announcement came on the birthday of his late grandfather, adding a meaningful and symbolic layer to the decision.
“I truly appreciate the opportunity, experiences, and lessons I’ve gained… With that being said, I will be entering the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining.”
Both players now look ahead to new opportunities as they continue their collegiate careers.
